  • If you want to go past B1: part 4 begins with lesson 31.

Before you choose

Who is this book for?

Adults learning German on their own through English. You can start from zero or from wherever you once left off.

Do I need to know grammar to start?

No. Lesson 1 begins with sounds and letters. Every rule starts with why you need the form, and only then comes the table.

Does it cover Austria and Switzerland?

Yes. “Austria and Switzerland” boxes show the words and forms you’ll hear there, and lesson 49 is about German in Austria and Switzerland.

How do the levels and checkpoints work?

Each of the six parts covers one level, from A1 to C2, and ends with a checkpoint: listening, reading, and writing, as on a real exam. From B2 on, a speaking self-check is added. These are practice checks, not official exams; completing the book alone does not establish your level.

What comes with the book?

The e-book comes as PDF and EPUB. The QR code in each lesson opens online audio, exercises that check your answers, and word cards. Online practice is included with the book, at no extra charge.
